Hawaii Principal Archaeologist (Archaeological Project Manager) $105,000 to $130,000/annum
Position Overview
International Archaeology, LLC is seeking a highly qualified Principal Archaeologist (Archaeology Project Manager) to lead and oversee complex archaeological projects. This role encompasses the comprehensive administration and strategic oversight of assigned projects, including the preparation of cost proposals, budget management, quality assurance, and adherence to project requirements and contractual obligations. The Principal Archaeologist (Archaeology Project Manager) will serve as the primary liaison for clients and subconsultants, ensuring effective communication and coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Prepare cost proposals as requested by clients or in response to solicitations.
- Administer all aspects of assigned projects, ensuring alignment with company policies and objectives.
- Oversee project budgets to ensure cost-effective resource use. Regularly review expense reports and provide management guidance to maintain budget adherence.
- Participate in all client meetings and communications to provide project updates and address any issues.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring their needs and expectations are met.
- Provide project updates to clients and address outstanding items.
- Oversee quality control for all project deliverables to ensure they meet required standards.
- Ensure full compliance with all project and task order requirements, as well as contractual obligations.
- Supervise the preparation of subconsultant agreements by the Project Manager Assistant, ensuring alignment with specific project requirements.
- Manage all communications with subconsultants, ensuring clarity and alignment on project goals and deliverables.
- Set and manage project schedules, coordinating with other company personnel and the Business Office.
- Act as a liaison between the project team and other departments to ensure smooth project execution.
- Inform the Business Office of billing milestones and review project billings before client submission.
- Review and approve invoices from subconsultants, coordinating with the Business Office for timely payment.
Qualifications
- At least five years of experience managing projects.
- A minimum of ten years of professional experience directing medium- to large-scale projects.
- Proven expertise in applying archaeological theories, methods, and techniques.
- Strong archaeology project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and quality control.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with clients, subconsultants, and internal teams.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Education
Master’s degree or higher in Archaeology or a closely related field, with a specialization in Pacific Island archaeology strongly preferred.

Guam Senior Archaeologist (Archaeological Project Director) $77,000 to $125,000/annum
Position Overview
International Archaeology, LLC is seeking a highly qualified Senior Archaeologist (Archaeological Project Director) in Guam who will work under the supervision of the Project Manager and Principal Investigator. The Senior Archaeologist (Archaeological Project Director) will prepare and implement research designs, make strategic and professional decisions in the field, and demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills through technical reports and publications. Key responsibilities include providing oversight and direction in the field, managing all post-field tasks such as data management, laboratory work, GIS figure drafting, and writing, as well as utilizing basic statistical analyses to analyze and interpret data. The ideal candidate will hold a master’s degree or higher in archaeology or a related field and have at least five years of professional experience directing archaeological projects while effectively applying archaeological theories, methods, and techniques.
Responsibilities
Project Planning and Organization
- Develop fieldwork strategies, selecting suitable methods and techniques.
- Prepare work plans.
- Data management.
- Project staffing, including ensuring staff have all required trainings and passes.
Team Leadership
- Lead and coordinate a team of archaeologists and other professionals involved in the project.
- Supervise a team of archaeologists during fieldwork and post-field tasks. Provide in-field training, resolve problems, and evaluate performance.
- Regularly communicate with the PI regarding process, challenges (with proposed solution), and analytical questions.
Surveys and Excavations
- Conduct archaeological surveys and excavations, ensuring accurate recording and interpretation of archaeological data.
- Participate in planning and coordinating schedules to accomplish fieldwork and project scope.
- Conduct Quality Assurance/Quality Checks (QA/QC) on field data.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines related to archaeological practices.
- Complete work in accordance with applicable Department of Defense, Federal, and State regulations and laws, particularly concerning historic/cultural preservation, endangered species, safety, and health.
Stakeholder Management
- Manage relationships with stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and funding bodies.
Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare project plans and reports and present findings to professional peers and the public.
- Prepare site form.
Collection Management
- With the Laboratory Manager, ensure the appropriate conservation and storage of archaeological collections.
Publication Oversight
- Oversee the publication of project results in scholarly journals and other outlets.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field
- Strong knowledge of archaeological methods and theory
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a variety of field conditions.
- Familiarity with GIS software and other relevant technology
- Experience in managing and supervising teams.
- A minimum of two years of CRM experience required.
- Pacific Islands or Asian Archaeology experience and bioarcheological experience will be viewed favorably.
- Must have a valid U.S. passport and U.S. REAL ID driver’s license, or valid work visa, and must be able to pass a background check for access to military installations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe software, and digital field technologies (e.g., tablet and GPS)
- Work requires independent judgment/decision making, technical writing and organizational skills, attention to detail, and people skills.

GIS Technician
Position Overview
International Archaeology, LLC is seeking an Archaeological GIS Technician to support various projects by preparing and processing GPS field data, generating and configuring GIS data, and creating maps and graphics using GIS software. This role requires collaboration with the GIS Director, Project Director, and Principal Investigator to meet project needs.
Responsibilities
- Report to the GIS Director
- Respond to the needs of field crews to support GPS data collection
- Coordinate with report authors to produce informative and pleasing graphics to present the results of field survey or analyses
- Georeference maps and aerial photos, evaluate resulting errors
- Work with standardized geodatabases (SDSFIE, Navy Data Model, GeoFidelis)
- Prepare GIS deliverables to the specification of the client
- Practice good cartographic techniques and exercise a good sense of graphic design
- Perform basic geospatial analyses
- Assist with GPS hardware
- Follow standard operating procedures and the departmental style guide
- Practice good file organization
- Use Microsoft Office 365 to manage tasks and communicate with team members

Qualifications
